Who we are

The Halstock & District Gardening Club organises talks on gardening and related topics. It also arranges visits to gardens using members’ own transport, or local transport or coaches if the visit is further away. The membership fee is £5 per year, which entitles you to attend talks and visits – and as we are a member of the Castle Gardens Gold Club there is an annual discount evening at Castle Gardens and discount vouchers at other times of the year. A summer Flower Show is held each year on the same day as the Village Fete
We are affiliated to the RHS,
the Somerset Federation of Gardening Clubs and the
Dorset Federation of Horticultural Societies.
We welcome non-members to the talks and visits. The entrance fee for the talks is £3 for members and £4 for non-members. The cost of visits will of course vary but there will be a lower cost for members. If you would like to join the club, or become a member of the committee, please contact
Helen McNab at squeaky349@gmail.com for more information.

The well-attended talk given by Nick Bailey on 15 September was a very entertaining and enjoyable evening - lots of laughter and various insights into the making of Gardeners' World programmes, the Physic Garden in London, show gardens at Chelsea and Birmingham, and his times working abroad and at home. He started gardening as a very small child with a patch in his parents' garden where he grew flowers and vegetables and also pretended to be a presenter on a gardening show!
Despite the rain and high winds making it necessary to move the fete indoors with the flower show and a reduced number of stalls, there was a fantastic turnout. There was still the bottle tombola (a complete sell-out), cake stall (also a sell-out!), silent auction (all lots were bid for), photographic competition (some really stunning entries), plant stall (couldn't get near it), art exhibition (so much local talent) and the tea 'tent' (nothing much left!). A really lovely social community event.
